Humans have been harnessing the power of wind for more than 2,000 years. But the use of wind to generate electricity is a more recent phenomenon. And this development is now beginning to bear fruit. Grid parity has now been achieved, which means that the cost price of offshore wind is the same as for energy obtained using fossil fuels. But there is no end in sight to the development of wind energy and other renewable energy sources.

Ben Arntz (27) and Nick Noordam (27) from GBM Works won the Philips Innovation Award on May 8th. These young men developed a method to install wind turbines almost noiseless at sea. Sif stimulates innovation in offshore wind and helps these thinkers with a passion for technology.

Our world and our climate are changing. Due to the climate change, the need to find and exploit new, sustainable energy sources has become increasingly important. For companies and public authorities, it is not only necessary to respond to new developments, but also especially important to anticipate them. This is what minister Kamp of Economic Affairs envisioned to achieve when he introduced a new tendering scheme earlier this year: the SDE+ scheme.

A growing world population and expanding economic activities are putting pressure on our ecosystem.
