Sif loads first monopiles on seagoing ship at Maasvlakte 2
Sif loaded the first monopiles on a seagoing ship on 2 January. This was accomplished with the Innovation, a jack-up vessel from Geosea, which is part of the Belgian DEME Group. With this step, the first part of the new deep-sea wharf at Maasvlakte 2 was put into service.
Four monopiles were loaded, together with four transition pieces. The Innovation has since departed for the Galloper Wind Farm off the coast of Suffolk, where it will install monopiles. More shipments of this type will follow in the weeks ahead. The public can follow the Sif Group’s activities on tours that leave from FutureLand, the Rotterdam Port Authority’s information centre at the Maasvlakte.
Since summer of 2015, Sif has been constructing the assembly and coating hall on a 42-hectare campus of Maasvlakte 2 at express speed. Currently, two monopiles are being completed every week, each up to 80 metres in length. The facility is slated to be fully complete by July 2017.
