Sif signs ‘Offshore Wind USA’ covenant
On 9 April, the Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation and participants/companies of Holland Home of Energy (HHWE), of which Sif is a member, signed a covenant entitled ‘Offshore Wind USA’.
The aim of this three-year covenant is to increase Dutch trade relations and market share in the United States of America (US) by promoting the Dutch offshore wind sector, stimulating knowledge exchange, and strengthening government-to-government relations.
The US offshore market has made significant progress, driven by strong political support from some Northeastern and East Coast states. There are a number of large projects in the pipeline for the coming years that could result in an installation capacity of about 20 GW in 2030. One of the main obstacles to further offshore wind development in the US is the lack of experience and availability of resources – mainly vessels and monopile foundations – in the market.
The Dutch offshore wind sector can help to fill this need in the US market by sharing relevant experience and innovative technologies through knowledge transfer and entering into partnerships with local parties.
The main message of these Partners in International Business (PIB) to the American stakeholders is that the Dutch sector is willing to jointly build the American local supply chain. Under this PIB, the cluster expects to obtain particularly large orders from Service Agreements and export orders for the Dutch sector.
