Product Innovation

Innovations and process efficiency are essential for facilitating the accelerated rollout of offshore wind energy. Which is why the sector is continuously searching for ways to increase offshore wind farm energy production. At, Sif we are closely monitoring the development of larger turbines and studying their impact on foundation size, manufacturability and costs.

Product innovation at Sif

Ambitions for offshore wind energy are high so the supply chain needs to keep up. Sif is playing a leading role in this. We are increasing our monopile capacities and investing in efficiency by expanding our production facilities and developing innovative products. This will enable us to implement our monopile foundation concept on a larger scale, while keeping costs low.

Skybox

Sif is aiming for an efficient series production of monopile foundations. We are therefore developing technologies including the Skybox. This product accelerates the installation of TP-Less foundations and simplifies monopiles. A Skybox reduces costs, improves installability and increases production capacity.

More product innovations

Besides Skybox, our product development department is working on:

  • Low-noise pile-driving
  • Tower to foundation connection techniques
  • Alternative fixed seabed foundations for deeper waters (60-100m)
  • The transition to green steel
  • Monopile decommissioning
  • Monopile repowering

Collaboration is crucial for us. Our subsidiary, KCI The Engineers plays an active role in developing these new products and services.

The future of product innovation at Sif

Our product innovation is focusing on the further development of monopile technology. We support startups and research projects and collaborate with TU Delft, TNO and other research institutions.

We have concluded that monopiles of 11 metres in diameter and a maximum wall thickness of 120 mm represent a tipping point in technical and economic feasibility. It is vital that we gain production experience with these dimensions before taking on bigger projects.

Sif is doing its utmost to support the development of monopile technology and offers complete solutions, including logistics services.
