Production Process

From steel plate to offshore foundation

The production of each monopile starts with welding together several plates while still flat. These are then milled to size, rolled to a tubular form and assembled into complete monopiles in our assembly hall. In Roermond, we produce the primary steel for transition pieces, which are then equipped with platforms and other components by our partner, Smulders.

We have a separate production line in Roermond for smaller tubular components. Depending on market demand, this production line is also used to produce pin piles for jacket foundations for offshore wind energy projects. The production method for the primary steel for transition pieces and for smaller tubular components is similar to the production method for monopiles.

Offshore wind farms are increasing in size and complexity and are being constructed further from the coast. Foundations are also becoming heavier. Moreover, the quality standards for the basic materials and weld connections of our monopiles are becoming increasingly stringent. This not only results in the need for high weld speeds, but also for a larger process capacity and high-quality welds. We work to exacting standards and extremely tight tolerances. Our team’s experience and professional expertise enable us to continue to meet these high requirements, even within a short timeframe.
